andrew my travel + work-day carry I first clocked FREITAG years ago at their old Soho store in New York without knowing anything about them. It took stumbling into their shop in Chiang Mai to finally dig in — and the brand's story is genuinely great (two brothers, rainy Zurich, bike messengers, industrial waste turned into objects). I went deep enough on it to make a whole video on my TikTok. The short version: the recycled origin isn't a marketing layer, it's the entire reason the bag looks and lasts the way it does. And my favorite thing about this bag is that it shows up already worn. Every Freitag is cut from a used truck tarp, so it arrives pre-scuffed, faded, a little battered, and completely one-of-a-kind. For a recovering perfectionist that's the whole game: there's no first scratch to dread and no pristine version to protect. It already lived a life on a highway somewhere, and that frees you to actually use it. As a bag, it does the work. It holds a 15" laptop in a removable padded sleeve, and the pockets and sleeves are laid out exactly the way a daily carry should be — I never find myself digging. The main zip is waterproof, so everything inside stays dry. It's comfortable to carry and basically indestructible, which makes sense for something built from material engineered to survive years lashed to a truck in the rain. It's my default whenever I know I'll be working off my computer on a trip or a day out. It's $380, which is real money for a bag — but it's the rare one where the wear that usually makes you wince is the entire point you're paying for. Two honest notes: tarp is heavy, so this is a substantial bag, not a featherweight nylon thing. And online you don't get to choose your exact tarp — each is unique, so you take what you're given unless you shop in person, which is half the fun anyway. Worth it if you want a genuinely durable, weatherproof work bag with a real story and zero preciousness — a bag you'll use hard and never have to baby. Skip if you want something lightweight, subtle, or matchy. This is loud, heavy, and proudly itself.
